Swords Creek, Va., Dec. 21.

School here closed Friday for the holidays.

Prof. J. D. Miller was a visitor to Homaker Tuesday.

Ras Ball was up from Gardner Monday gathering holly.

Wesley Welch, of Big Lick, was a business visitor here Tuesday.

Squire M. O. Wells, of Honaker, was transacting business on the Creek Monday.

Miss Lizzie Wilson was the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. C. Ball, of Gardner, last Friday.

Supt. G. W. Paul arrived here Monday to hold some quarterly meetings in this section.

Miss Shedds, who has been teaching school at Cedar Grove, was a visitor to our town Tuesday.

Quite a crowd attended the social given by Mr. and Mrs. Speegman. All report an enjoyable time.

Misses Rosa Barrett, Myrtle and Mallie Duncan were the guests of Miss Maud Robinson Saturday and Sunday.

John F. Rains, who has been attending the Roanoke Business College for the past two months, passed through our town Friday en route to his home in Buchanan county where he will spend the holidays.

On last Thursday the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rickman was seriously burned. The mother being out of the house, hearing the child scream, returned to the house finding the child's clothes in flames.
