DEPUTY SHERIFF CHAS. HUNT SERIOUSLY SHOT.

A. W. Davis Also Stops a Bullet in a Pitched Battle in Russell County, Va.

News reached this city inst. night of a pitched battle near Swords Creek, in Russell county, Va., in which about thirty shots were fired. Deputy Sheriff Charles Hunt was seriously wounded by a bullet from a gun fired by William Bostic, who made good his escape, though several persons who witnessed the shooting gave chase.

It seems that Hunt and D. T. Johnson attempted to arrest Bostic on a charge of resisting an officer about three months ago, the trouble at that time arising from the attachment of an organ.

In the pitched battle yesterday A. W. Davis also stopped a bullet from Bostic's gun.
